Hello hello!
Lesotho. It’s better than I ever could have imagined. This month my team is living out in the middle of mountains surrounded by fields and horses and donkeys and chickens and dogs. Our house is solar powered which means we get minimal electricity use and lights out by 9:30!
The plant lover in me is absolutely in heaven. I’ve never seen so many new little wildflowers mixed with cactus and fir trees all at once! Not mention all the fields full of vegetables and corn and yummy things. It’s beautiful.
For ministry everyday we hike for 30min to a small little village and spend all morning walking around getting to know people, praying for people, and serving in whatever little ways we can. This often looks like doing dishes, sweeping dirt paths, learning how to make sour porridge, or just admiring someone’s donkeys. It’s so chill and seems like we are doing so little, but God is doing so much. One day we got Lesotho names and they named me Palesa which means flower – how fitting! Already we’ve seen someone come to know Christ, a swollen ankle be healed, and people coming back for more prayer because they felt the impact it had.
Back at our house after lunch, we do some afternoon chores. Sometimes this looks like using a hoe to clear a whole stretch of stubborn weeds – my absolute favorite chore. Other times we move over a hundred cinder blocks across the yard. Other times we make cement, move large boulders, or cut down trees. Needless to say my hands are blistered and calloused and it feels so good.
My favorite part of the day is between chores and dinner when one of the little toddlers, Caliwe, from the preschool has to wait for her mom and she plays with the daughter of one of the people who work with our ministry. Caliwe is super shy, but we started a waving game that turned into her coming to sit on my lap that turned into going on adventures to play the piano in the church or painting with water on the concrete. She’s so sweet and I just love her!
That’s all for now! Pray for the people in or village and that the Holy Spirit would continue to teach us how to bless them best!
Love,
Jenn
