We made it to India! We stayed in Hydrobad for a few nights to rest, get some cultural training and learn how to eat with our hands the right way. India is a whole new world for us, all of a sudden we are in another really big city full of noise and crazy driving. But it’s all good! We successfully fit 6 World Racers in 1 tuk tuk or moto, with only minimal limbs hanging out the side.
As I write this my team is headed out to our city a couple hours outside of Hydrobad where we will be partnering with Rescue Pink. Here we will be working alongside our hosts to help end female infanticide. This is not an issue that can be solved over night so we will be building relationships with the girls and women we meet. Part of our job here will be to share the women’s stories that we meet. That also means PICTURES!!
**I just saw a whole pack of monkeys on the side of the road!** THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!
Indian monkeys or any monkeys in the wild are not nice, I am not Jane Goodall and able to communicate with all primates. So that being said I will be staying away from the primate this month, instead I will be soaking up the love and life of the people around me and the house guard dog Sweety. She is as vicious as she sounds.
Everyday we will have the young girls of the program 4-12 years at the office to have English lessons and play with them. We will also be going to different villages nearby to meet with the women who are receiving services from Rescue Pink. There is so much happening at this organization that you just have to check out their website! (Just a tiny little plug in here!)
We will be in this city for about 3 weeks then we’ll head back to Hydrobad where I’ll meet up with…. MY PARENTS! I’m super excited for them to come volunteer alongside my squad this month. We’ll go on World Race adventures (ie get lost, meet some amazing person, walk for hours until you find your way etc) and Indian adventures like using in a moto on the crazy streets! It will be a week to remember for them, heads up Mom and Dad Indian food is SPICY! No joke, I will always say I do not like spice for this month! Bring your heartburn pills because the week you are here is going to shake things up!
