Jesus paints a picture that doesn’t make sense. When you look in the bible Jesus asks his disciples and all those who wish to live in his image to give everything up. He wants you to let go of all your comforts and security and follow Him.

That is crazy?!?

What about my super comfy bed or AIR-CONDITIONING??? How am I supposed to survive when I think Illinois has hot summers? It regularly gets to the 90s here, and in India, it exceeds 105 degrees daily. A year without cool air, wherever I go, will take getting used to. As much as I would like to deny it I have been called high maintenance, and sometimes I even agree. Hey! I am a girl who likes what she likes and a creature of habit.

But I am called.

He knows about the lack of air-conditioning where I am going; He knows that my blow up mattress will be more than enough to rest on.

I am called.

Jesus knows I am petrified of spiders, and yet He still calls me forward. I wish God would just clear a path for me to avoid ALL insects during the next 11 months (I would prefer my whole life, but that is asking a lot). Instead, God puts insects into my path on a daily basis because it’s an area that I can grow.

Jesus wants me. Of all people in the world, He told me to give up all the comforts of my life to live a year unexpected, challenged all to glorify Him. Earlier this year I had a vivid image, where I was sitting in a hot, smelly bus driving in the countryside. I felt calm, trust and peace as I heard the word ‘go’ and ‘more’. He called me.

.

For the next year, my life will be radically different. I will be in a new home every month, I will have various sleeping conditions and the food may look and taste a little different. It is true that I will almost definitely not have air-conditioning or a comfy bed. But I will be obeying God. He has led me to say ‘yes’ to The World Race and He will be there every step of the way.

God doesn’t make sense, but He is all about pushing the boundaries. He heals those who are ill and dying. He feeds all who are hungry. Most importantly He loves all His creations.

I am coming, Lord.

This is my nephew Dakota (Instagram @dakota.the.noodle)

He’s pretty great and lives a wild and free lifestyle.

He likes long walks in the park, playing tug-a-war and stealing chairs to sit in!
