A world so vast, a world beyond the words so desperately trying to ingulf it. I’ve seen things people see only through secondhand words and pictures. I’ve seen dark places. I’ve seen neon signs with stairs spiraling down to young girls dancing on poles, being tossed from one dirty man to the next. I’ve seen people stuck in dark places. I’ve seen kids roaming filthy streets, wearing rags, barefoot and digging through trash to find something salvageable to eat. I’ve seen people filled with demons that possess them and control their minds. I’ve seen mothers sitting on corners of streets trying to sell enough fruit to provide for her family. I’ve seen fathers drunks, stumbling down the streets with failure gripped in their hands. I’ve seen 80 year old women hauling jugs of water up a mountain wearing flip flops. I’ve seen people that have never heard the word “Jesus”. I’ve seen a women stuck in a marriage with a man who beats her and her children. I’ve seen people in pain with damaged bodies.
I’ve seen so many dark places. But I’ve seen light flood dark places. I’ve seen young girls escape the neon signs and come to know their Heavenly Father. I’ve seen kids wearing rags, given a bowl of food and hope for a future that the Lord holds. I’ve seen people being freed from their demons. I’ve seen mothers accept Christ and believe God will provide for her family. I’ve seen drunk Fathers become sober and leave the streets without stumbling. I’ve seen people learn the name of Jesus and begin following his word. I’ve seen women in broken, abused marriages fight through prayer. I’ve seen damaged bodies being healed in Jesus’s name.
I’ve seen the darkness of this earth, but I’ve seen light overcome the darkness. I’ve seen my past darkness bring light to other’s darkness. I will never look at the world as I did before, and I’m thankful for that. I’m thankful for being apart of the light reaching darkness.
