Hello everybody!! Today I’m sharing three poems I wrote a few days ago when I was very sick with a cold. Each poem represents a scene of my life in Romania. As my time here is coming to an end, I thought it would be a sweet little commemorative blog post. Enjoy!

NIGHT (this poem depicts a typical night in our bedroom in Dragonesti)

overnight

the wind changed

from nonexistent

to icy cold,

pushing the

cracked white window open

at 4am

six girls shiver and

bury themselves deeper

into stained comforters

and sleeping bags

OLTENEA (this poem depicts what ministry looked like for me most days this month)

cloudy skies

walls painted grey

a young boy

with a dripping nose and

a scream to tear

the house down

cries out for his mother

weary, sleepy hearts

waiting for some sort of significance

we sit on the ground

folding airplanes

out of squares of toilet paper

trying to distract the boy

from his heartache

to make his spirits lift off

as the plane soars

past the window

EN INGLESA? (this poem depicts the language barrier when we tried teaching English to sweet elementary school kids in the village)

one

three

a game of never ending tag

nu, nu, nu!

i don’t understand sorry

shrugged shoulders

giggles at the misinterpretation

en inglesa?

a nod of the head

honey gold eyes

peering curiously at me

scrrams of laughter

crayons scattered

“how you say in Romania?”

we are learning

to live simpler lives

Romania has been so wonderful. I have another blog post coming your way soon that I’m really excited about! Thanks for reading! Ukraine here I come!
