Hello again!!

Yesterday, I returned home from 10 days of Training Camp for the Race, and my thoughts in a nutshell would be that I’ve learned to expect the unexpected.

The past week and half I have added 42+ to my family (42 squadmates + training team and others at World Race/AIM that are amazing people), and I love them more than I thought could be possible after spending time nonstop together in the heat of a Georgia summer day.

To do a quick recap, here are some of my thoughts from TC:

  1. Don’t think you can get through Atlanta without getting caught in traffic. (Don’t worry, I got to camp on time with a couple of minutes to spare.)
  2. It would be beneficial to know how to blow up your sleeping pad before it’s time to go to sleep.
  3. Not being able to find your tent stakes (and convincing others your tent didn’t come with any), then finding out they were under your tent the whole time can quickly become an analogy; i.e. similar to the tent stakes story, you may not always see God (and you may be convinced He isn’t there), but in reality He was/is there all along.
  4. Showers aren’t THAT important. (Just kidding, but I probably should have taken more than I did. Hah.)
  5. The lack of mirror usage is quite freeing. Not putting so much time into your appearance and realizing that nobody actually cares and/or is judging you is absolutely the best feeling. (Plus, the mirror was in the portapotties, so no real motivation there to go use it.)
  6. Always carry long, loose fitting pants for Africa day, so you don’t have to wear your Minion sleeping pants around camp to be culturally appropriate.
  7. Keep your toiletries in your daypack.
  8. You’ll be surprised where all you can sleep when you’ve walked up a huge hill multiple times that day.
  9. Dance parties can happen…anywhere, anytime.
  10. Sharing is always caring.
  11. Don’t forget to Floss 😀

Majority of my training camp was unexpected, but X Squad embraced the unknown with such grace; I cannot wait to not know what’s coming next with them for 11 months. I am beyond blessed by these beautiful people God has given to me. I guess I should stop being so surprised when God does such awesome things, but here I am…in awe again of how He works things out for our good and His glory.
