Hi!  Thanks for coming to my blog!!  My names Emily and I’m from Texas.  I grew up in La Porte, a small city right outside of Houston, and Austin.  I was raised in the episcopal church and my dad was ordained as an episcopal priest when I was 10.  Needless to say, my faith, the church, and Christianity have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

While living in Austin, I picked up the lovely sport of gymnastics.  At first, at 7 years old, this was just something fun to do for an hour or so after school, but that quickly changed.  It was pretty clear I had a knack for the sport and as soon as I was asked to be on the competition team, it became my life.  And when I say my life, I mean It.  I’m talking 7 hour a day workouts, $650 competition leotards, and missing a lot of school to travel all around the country from competitions.  Gymmastics, my team, and my coaches were my everything.  But, as they say, all good things come to an end.  To keep it short, I had a fun career ending injury my junior year of highschool and decided to give up the sport.  Post-gymnastics Emily was pretty lost for a while, but she’s starting to find her way again, don’t worry :).

With all my extra free time, I began to get really involved in the youth ministry in my diocese.  I joined the Diocesan Youth Leadership Committee (DYLC), and that allowed me to meet an amazing group of people to help me find myself and God again.  While on this committee, I had the honor to staff and lead weekend retreats for the youth in the diocese and since then, I’ve known that helping others find Christ and get closer to Him, and most importantly, spreading God’s abundant grace and love is something I want to do everyday of my life.  The World Race happens to be the perfect way to do that in such an incredible and new way.  So strap in and enjoy the ride that is my World Race journey!

Blessings,

Emily Lasiter
