Just a lil life update: I’ve been slowly but surely gathering the gear that I need. As of right now, I have my backpack (her name is Inigo Montoya; Iggy for short), a travel pillow, a sleeping bag, a GoPro, and my trusty ol’ Nalgene, Stevie. Iggy and I have been taking quite a few hikes together, just trying to get used to each other’s company. In addition to the blogs, you can expect to see vlogs soon because I now have the equipment to do that! Also, fundraising is in full swing right now! And let’s just be honest… it’s kind of a headache!

Sometimes I get overwhelmed by the amount of money that needs to be raised. But then I remember that this isn’t for me. People aren’t giving money to me because I deserve it. They’re giving to see the glory of the Lord proclaimed through the nations. They’re giving to see orphans being loved on. They’re giving to see lives restored through the work of the Holy Spirit. They’re not giving to me, they’re giving to the cause of spreading the word of the Lord. And I’ve seen God come through time and time again. I just keep hanging onto the motto, “Where God guides, He provides.”

This reminded me of the story of Moses and how empowering it is. Many people think of Moses as a strong person who was a born leader. They think that he was just naturally inclined to lead huge groups of people to their destiny. While this might be true, I don’t believe that upon meeting him one might be taken aback by his leadership. Exodus 2:10-12 talks about how much Moses struggled with his words. Moses pleaded with the Lord, explaining that he gets tongue-tied and nervous. But, of course, the Lord already knew this and He responded with, “‘Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.’” When I first read that statement it really blew me away. Wow! The perfect, holy, God of the universe knows that I’m not worthy, but He still chooses to call upon me to serve Him. He knows my faults, my grievances and the places that I have come up short, but He still loves me all the same. Strong, famous leaders like Moses weren’t any more qualified than I am to pursue God’s calling.

So, when I get caught up in myself, the Lord continually reminds me of why I’m doing this. Just like Moses, God hasn’t chosen me because I’m the perfect model of what it means to live in a relationship with him. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. He has chosen me because I’m not perfect. He has called me to the missions field because I’m broken enough to need a Savior.

God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.
