One way to have a vibrant relationship with the Holy Spirit is to pray God’s Word back to Him. If you decide to use a verse that encourages us to believe something, then use this format. So you take a verse like Jeremiah 31:3 which says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”
1) Say the phrase
2) Thank God for that
3) Ask God to reveal that to you
4) Use pauses, groans, sighs and praying in tongues in between those first 3 steps
And make sure to go slow when you do this. Use short phrases, take your time and even picture the throne if you’d like. (Revelation 4 & 5)
So you take a phrase and say it back to God. For example: “God, You say that You love me with an everlasting love. Pause. Say the phrase again. Sigh. Thank You God that You love me with an everlasting love. Pray in tongues. Say it again. Sigh. Please reveal more to me about how You love me with an everlasting love. Pause. Sigh. Wow.“
Then you can do the same thing with the second phrase. “I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Obviously, you can do this however you want. You don’t have to do it this way. This is just a suggestion, a way to pray God’s Word back to Him.
Verses that exhort us to believe:
John 17:26; 2 Chron. 16:9; Isa. 40:31; 2 Cor. 12:9; Psa. 46:1; Psa. 28:7-8; Isa. 12:2; Eph. 3:16; 2 Tim. 1:7; Psa. 139:16
If you pick a verse that encourages us to obey or do something, use this format. Romans 12:2 ”Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
1) Say the phrase
2) Say I commit or resolve to…(whatever the verse is saying)
3) Ask God to help you do that thing
4) Use pauses, groans, sighs and praying in tongues in between the first 3 steps
Again, make sure to go slow when you do this. Use short phrases, take your time and even picture the throne if you’d like.
So you take a phrase and say it back to God. For example: “God, You say that we should not conform to this world. Pause. Say it again. Pause. I commit and resolve to not conform to this world. Pray in tongues. Pause. Sigh. God Help me to not conform to this world. Pause. Etc.
Let the Holy Spirit take over this time. It doesn’t have to be a certain way.
Verses that exhort us to obey:
Luke 10:27; Rom. 12:2; Phil. 4:8; Jer. 33:3; Prov. 4:23; Prov. 3:5-6; Matt. 21:22
I really hope you give this a try. It’s a beautiful way to feed your spirit with God’s Word. I also hope you take the time to watch the video I am putting below.

Feeding your spirit with God’s Word
I wanted to talk about one more thing. I’ve learned a few lessons during this whole time of dealing with anxiety and fear.
1) Pray and fast. We all know how important this is but not many of us do this. The reason we fast is to position ourselves to receive what God has for us and it actually works. And by fasting, I mean the kind mentioned in the Bible, which is not eating any food for a day or two or whatever you decide. There is something amazing that happens when we don’t eat food. It’s different than other kinds of fasting where we just limit our time on Facebook or whatever. It has a different effect on your body and has different results. Obviously, this is just my opinion and you can fast however you want.
2) It’s ok to feel a certain way, like I felt anxiety and fear. It’s good to identify what you are feeling not to ignore it. Once you have identified what you’re feeling, then ask the Holy Spirit what you should do with those feelings. He will tell you and help you get through them. It’s ok to feel them but you don’t want to live in them for a long extended period of time.
3) Watch what you say. We all know this and have heard the verse that says that death and life is in the power of the tongue. I think we have all said, “Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.” That’s true when you engage the Holy Spirit and have an ongoing fellowship and interaction with Him. What you’ve experienced and had in the past will not hold you over into today. It has to be an ongoing, present tense, vibrant, interactive relationship with Him because He is the power and he is Greater, not you. Have faith that God will work everything out for your good and speak that out.
4) Praise God through the battle. “His praise will ever be on my lips.” I love that song and sing it often. He is still worthy and good. He doesn’t change with our circumstances. I would recommend keeping worship music on in the background if you’ll be at home, eother physically or in your spirit. God wants you to mature and grow and to grow your faith. That’s why He’s allowing these things to happen.
5) Guard your heart. The enemy wants to plant fear in your heart. If you’re having a rough day, don’t Netflix and chill every time. Turn off all distraction and seek Him. Ask Him what you need to do or ask Him to restore you if you’ve been emptied. Ask Him to strengthen your inner man if you’re feeling weakened. Battles soften your heart and give you compassion for others. They’ll make you more understanding and loving. They give you the heart of God.
Just rest. Cast your cares on Him because He cares for you. He’s rescued you so many times. Won’t He do it again?
