For our first month of ministry, my team and I are joining Grace so Amazing Ministry in Mirebalais, Haiti to work with orphans. Grace so Amazing is an organization that takes care of local Haitian women and children who have been neglected and abandoned. While we are here we will be working at the local school, helping with construction around the house and taking care of the children.
When we first arrived at our host, I was a little taken back, because we are living in the orphanage. It broke my heart to see all these beautiful women and children of God left to fight for themselves. I experienced a plethora of emotions. At first, I was broken, then I was filled with anger, but the anger soon turned to even more sadness.
“How could someone do this to another person?”
“How am I going to help?”
“What if they don’t want me here?”
These were all the thoughts that ran rapidly through my head as we walked through the iron casted gate.
Thankfully, I had some pretty amazing teammates around to put things in perspective and reminded me to give it to God through prayer.
This wasn’t the easiest thing to do because I’m the type of person that wants to fix everything, but there are something that even I can’t do on my own. Sure, there those things that I will never understand and I’m okay with that. As long as I know I’m doing my very best, that’s all God is asking of me.
On the happier note, God ended up putting some amazing men in our lives. We have had the privilege and honor to serve next to four Godly men from Washington (John, Jim, Mark, and Loren). These men have not only made me a better man, but have made a lasting impact on my life and ministry. I’m so thankful that God allowed us to connect for a brief period, and I know it won’t be the last time I hear from those four wise men.
We have been here for about a week now, and I have already learned so much. I look forward to learning more about the needs of the Haitian community as well as hearing others stories on how they fell in love with Christ.
Some prayers requests:
Pray for our health and wellness.
Pray for peace and patience as we intention connect with each person that comes into our lives.
Until next time,
Chandler
