Today, we did this thing called atl (ask the Lord). We had all morning to just sit and ask the Lord what he wanted the day to look like and what he wanted for the people in the community.

Each team came up with some sort of activity we could do, but with acknowledging that the sprit may lead us in another direction. Some examples of the plans we came up with are painting the nails for the woman and children in the community, playing with the children at the basketball court, and our team came up with making the old fashioned fortune tellers and paper air planes with encouraging words and verses to hand out.

As my team was walking down tiny road along the mountain, we past this house with two soaking wet children on the porch. They seemed like they just got done showering in the river.

We said the typical “hola, cómo estás” then we continues to give them the fortune teller and paper air plane we had made. We were showing them how to use it and playing with them and the grandma and mother came out and invited us in.

This woman was the sweetest abuela ever.

We walked in and she made sure we all had a seat and were comfy in her cute little home. You could tell how much joy it brought to them for us to come sit and chat with them. We had a great conversation about ages, birthdays, colors, brothers and sisters. Through these small talk questions, the little girl revealed that she actually had a new baby brother.

Only 7 days old!

The mother then urged us to come in the other room were he was napping and see the precious new born. This was the high light for this month so far because I’m so in love with children and having the opportunity to hold a new angel to the world filled my heart. Also, it meant a lot for the mother to give us the chance to hold her child.

We soon learned that the father is not in the picture and that she is raising the little girl and new born as a single parent.

We couldn’t go much deeper without a translator, but you could just tell by her being that she was an amazing mother and how much she cares for her children.

We then prayed as a whole over this family and took the daughter and some other children to the basketball court and to get pampered with a mani pedi.

They welcomed us with open arms and treated us as family and that has impacted my heart and I hope to do the same for them.
