Hi everyone,
I know there are countless lessons I’ve learned on the Race even though I’m only in month eight. Most of these things I’ll probably understand only in hindsight, and yet there’s so much more to do, to see, to learn.
But before I start waxing poetic, I’m going to try staying on track for once in my life. One of the more obvious lessons the Race has taught me is the importance of the Body, the whole Body, and the Body acting in unity. I started to understand little bits and pieces about this even before I left, in fact, most of the symbolism around my first tattoo has to do with unity and acting as a part of the Body of Christ.
Everyday we can look around ourselves and see people who, in one way or another are physically disabled. Maybe they’re wheelchair-bound, maybe they’re a war veteran, maybe they have one of a million other reasons to be working without all blessings most of us don’t even consider on a day-to-day basis. If we were to lose one of those “normal” functions, we would be at a loss, having to take a step back to reevaluate.
So today I write to you on behalf of a member of our body, Shea Greaves. She is our sister and one of the few people on our squad who is not yet fully funded. This Race would look so different for each of us if we did not have this part of our Body with us, our sister.
My goal is to direct you all to http://sheagreaves.theworldrace.org, her Race blog and hopefully raise $100 from my supporters. If every member of our squad raises that amount for our sisters, they will be fully funded!
If you are considering supporting Shea, PLEASE NOTE: if you donate on my blog page, it WILL NOT get to Shea’s account. Please donate directly on her page.
So let’s get to know Shea a little bit!
Where are you from?
– Irvington, New Jersey.
What’s your favorite color?
– Pink and purple.
What’s been your favorite memory on the Race so far?
– In Nicaragua when we had to pray against spiritual warfare for the children’s home. We had a strategy, a battle plan. We divided the campus into three parts and wrote down themes for our prayers and at each place we started out with prayer and ended with three battle songs where we jumped around and had fun. It was really fun.
Have you had a favorite country?
– Yeah, Lesotho. It was beautiful, the staff was so welcoming, and I felt like that’s where God really started to sift through my heart. And he revealed some lies that were shaping my life.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve eaten?
– Some mysterious meat in Thailand and I barfed afterwards. It took like an hour and I started getting hot flashes. And I knew it was the food.
What’s the strangest thing that’s happened to you in the past eight months?
-There was this one time in Lesotho when I went to the cornerstone and it was a little girl and her mom who ran the store and a mysterious man in a trench-like coat with boots maybe was approaching the store and stopped at the gate, just staring at me, with his hands in the pockets of his coat. I just started praying, because like, what’s in his coat pocket? Why is he staring at me? Will he approach? Yeah, and then he kept walking towards the store. I was eating some cheese doodles with the mom and daughter, just having fun and giggling when he approached, but he just came in, looked at me, looked at her. He never cracked a smile, though I tried several times to smile at him to crack the tension. And he bought cheese doodles too, then left the store. I stayed a couple minutes after he left. And when I was leaving, guess who was at the gate?
-Note from the author: she claims she emerged from this situation unscathed. I have never heard this story before and am currently yelling at her.
-To continue and wrap up: everything was fine. We hope he enjoyed his cheese doodles. The mom and her daughter also came to church the following Sunday. Yay!
What are your plans for after the Race?
– I’m just kinda praying into where God leads me.
So please help us out, we’re counting on you. I know how blessed you’ve all made me feel with your love through donations and helping me out when I needed the other parts of God’s family to be there for me. Let’s all be there for her.
Again, please donate at http://sheagreaves.theworldrace.org, NOT on this web page.
Thank you so much!
Love,
TL
