I asked my parents to write a guest blog about anything related to the World Race experience and/or the parent vision trip and here is what my dad wrote:

As a parent visiting the world race in Rwanda, I was truly blessed.  We had been praying for the team and keeping up with their blogs, but this week we experienced the love of Christ that they share so naturally.

We climbed in six buses to roll up and down a thousand hills between every ministry activity and every cultural experience. Lots of bus time on a thousand hills.

Once the team reaches the ministry location, they have to move quickly. They are surrounded by loving people and lots of need.  I appreciate just how quickly they have to act to resolve issues in such a short time.

This month there was a boy with a burnt arm that needed medical attention. The team responded with love to convince the parents to allow the boy to be taken to the hospital for surgery.  Within the week, the team was able to visit the boy many times and return him to his family.

Living together in community also increases the love of Christ.

For example, on our safari, one of the dad’s asked the driver if he knew who Jesus was.  Later in the day, his daughter, living in community, presented a much more compelling question, “Do you love Jesus?”

As he drove through a thousand hills that hosted rare wild animals, he got to talk with Kim at length about why she loves Jesus.

After that foundation, it was easier for her father to use the safari bus time effectively to listen and to teach.

Love is effective.  The love on a thousand hills makes you forget about the zebras or the cattle on a thousand hills. Love rises above the African plains between a thousand hills. It grasps our soul.
