This past month I was living in a village in the outskirts of the city of Livingston Zambia. We stayed at a ministry site called loves door to all nations, which focuses on village outreach, education and tutoring English, and children’s ministry. This month was all about building relationships with the locals, sharing Christ’s love, building a few mud houses, tutoring kids, painting, living in community, eating termites or whatever else we were offered, and tenting off the zimbeze river.
This was the first Month of the race where my team slept in our tents the entirety of the month. And the first time in which we had our own little Space or room for that matter. At the end of a long day I’d come to my tent and spend time with the Lord before I knocked out, it was in those precious moments where I was alone and in the presence of the Lord.
I found God in a tent.
I was alone, but at such peace. I sat there in the middle of nonewhere in a village in the middle of Africa. I was disconnected from the rest of the world. I didn’t have cell service, but I DID have the Lord.
It was there where I found God in more ways than one.
One night as I was sleeping. A huge storm broke out, there I was in my tent as the rain poured on me. Lightning was striking and the thunder was loud. And there I was in my little tent, all alone. In the distance I heard my teammate Elisabeth calling my name. She was in desperate need for help because her tent collapsed on her, and water was getting all in her tent and she couldn’t get out.
So I yelled “I’m coming!” but to my surprise my zipper was stuck. The storm picked up a bit, and I was holding on for dear life to my tent. I was afraid I was going to get swept away, so I tucked down and prayed. I asked the Lord to calm the storm and allow me to get out of there.
And just as I prayed- God showed up
He allowed me to get out.
And he allowed me to help my other teammates as well.
Sometimes from time to time we go through storms. Sometimes we are in the midst of a disaster and ask where is God in this mess?
But he’s there. And He’s there waiting for you to call upon him.
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Matthew 7:7
“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with your whole heart.” – Jeremiah 29:13
