Prompt: The Cold
“IT’S FREEZING HERE!!! Literally, I’m from Alabama, and I didn’t know that the earth could physically get this cold. One day, we were taking the public bus home from ministry, and we missed our stop. So we ended up a city over and were stranded outside with only light jackets. This was the worst yet best moment of the week because although the cold was miserable, our team created a “cuddle puddle” for warmth. We laughed like crazy for missing our stop and realizing that this was such a typical Monday. That’s what I love about my team…when crazy shenanigans happen, laughter and flexibility are always the first responses. So although we weren’t necessarily expecting the chilling weather, it has been no match to our spirits!” -Jenna Rose
I LOVE THE COLD!!!!! one of the best things that has happened so far as weather i don’t know why all the Northerners are complaining they should be used to it-Jacob Pourroy #Awesome
the brisk air beats against your face relentlessly. You are counting the amount of steps you have taken 233, 234, 235, 236 and so on and so on. Every step you step further away from warmth and closer to jack frost. It is a never ending journey to no where. Just another cold step on the cold ground in a cold world on the way to teaching English. There is peace in this though because you become so cold from this journey everyday, That you get to let the conversations that you have at the schools warm you warm your heart and your body. But then your back in the cold feeling the ice form across your face. On the journey home in which you may never reach, just freeze while trying to make it to your destination. DISCLAIMER: THIS HAS BEEN A EXTREME OVER EXAGGERATION OF THE COLD NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY

The coldness of Ukraine definitely came as a surprise. The first few weeks were actually very pleasant. We spent a day in Rivne with Team Vessel, which was super fun. The air was crisp and autumn-y and just the best. But then….THE COLD!!! All of a sudden the winds changed and that pleasant crispness turned into biting chill and icy rain. I seriously have no clue where it came from. I’m used to the cold (being from Colorado and all), but this cold was downright painful. We walk every day to the bus station. My very high-end backpack wardrobe consists of mostly flowy pants and tshirts, so you can see how this might be inconvenient. After borrowing clothes from teammates, my daily outfit looks like this: jeans with leggings underneath, a long sleeved tshirt, a sweater, Jenna Rose’s fleecy pullover, a rain jacket (with the hood pulled up), tall socks, and sneakers. I know. Who would have thought? It’s all worth it, though, because after we teach classes at the university in Rivne, we come home to warm, homemade soup and hugs from our brilliant host mom. At the end of the day, she makes it easy to withstand the crazy Ukrainian cold.

Heyya, folks! It be Colby!
The cold is pretty cool! (Absolute 0 pun intended). (*I did it AGAIN) No, but seriously, it’s alright. I really like the cold, but the wind though…. It cuts like a knife. The worst is when the wind is howling, the temp is dropping, and there’s that glorious Ukrainian mist a’falling. I think I would enjoy the weather more if I had more clothes to properly combat such weather conditions as these. As it is I do not, but it make impromptu cuddle puddles on the streets of Rivne a thing so that’s a plus!
HEY EVERYONE
This is me Camryn now. To start, my team and I decided to all write one prompt and put it in a pile and randomly choose a prompt. Which is awesome, because we all got something completely random and really it made it a lot of fun to write! So the one I got was to write about “The Cold”. In whatever they wanted too. Here is mine:
Cold. It’s one of those things that comes at you and just physically slaps you in the face. No like really though. A hard slap that ends up making your face as red as a beet. This month was full of cold days here in beautiful Ukraine. All of the moments where I wish I had more clothes were too many to count. To make it worse, every building we go to seems to have concrete walls that suck all the cold air in and breathes it out. And it’s not a cold where you can just put on a coat, it’s a cold to where you need like a huge fur coat to even retain any heat. I will miss Ukraine a bunch, but sorry cold, you won’t be missed very much.
I love you all and thank you so so much for reading!! <3
