My NEXT Journey…
What is InterVarsity?
InterVarsity is a multi-denominational Christian organization that focuses on campus ministry.
“InterVarsity is a vibrant campus ministry that establishes and advances witnessing communities of students and faculty. [Their] vision is to see students and faculty transformed, campuses renewed, and world changers developed.”

Why InterVarsity?
I first got involved with InterVarsity while I was a student at SD Mines. My freshman year I just attended the large group meetings, which usually consisted of worship and a speaker. Sophomore year, I began attending a small group. Junior year, I became more involved and started leading a small group. Then during my senior year, I became part of the leadership team and lead our large group meetings also known as Catalyst. This year Catalyst became more dynamic, we started a rotation of themed nights that consisted of worship and prayer, Scripture dig-ins, speakers, and active mission nights. Throughout my four years with InterVarsity I developed incredible friendships with other students. Through these friendships, we spoke encouragement and life into each other; we challenged each other to become more like Christ.
While on the World Race I felt the Lord calling me into full-time ministry, so I begin thinking about what made me come alive. I thought about how much I enjoyed the friendships at SD Mines, how I loved encouraging other believers, and how I loved discovering more about God with other students. After leaving college I realized how open college students are to learning and discovering. They are figuring out who they are going to become as they transition from kids to adults. What better time to open their eyes and hearts to the Savior, who offers us salvation and who heals and redeems us. Instead of college students finding their identity in the world, they can find their identity in being called children of God. That’s why I am working with InterVarsity. I want to share the good news with students. I want to encourage and challenge them to grow in their intimacy with God.
Where will I be?
I am officially appointed to be a campus staff minister in the South Dakota area. When I become 70% funded I will be joining the staff team at South Dakota State University where I will serve under the leadership of veteran campus staff minister, John Florey. While at SDSU I will contribute to building the chapter as well as helping explore new campuses and plant new chapters along the eastern edge of the state.
After working with John at SDSU, I hope on returning to my alma mater, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, for the 2020-2021 school year as my permanent placement.

What have I been doing and what’s next?
Since I have been back in the states I have been working full time at a local coffee shop. I have also had the opportunity to attend several InterVarsity conferences over the past couple of months. The first one was an SD Mines chapter fall conference, where I lead a small group and a session about living missional. The second conference was a regional conference (Lakes and Plains – SD, ND, MN, and WI) in Minnesota, where I lead a small group in the Following Jesus track and volunteered in the tech booth.
My position within InterVarsity is completely support-raised. I am beginning the process of Ministry Partner Development, MPD. Throughout the next weeks and months, I will be reaching out to you to ask for monthly support both financially and spiritually so I can begin working on campus. I hope that by January 2019 I can be 70% fully-funded so that I can move to Brookings, SD and begin working at SDSU. I pray that you will consider partnering with me as I begin the next journey of my life.
