In a few short days we are off to Africa on this thing called the World Race. Month 6 has come to an end, and just like that we can say we have officially conquered Asia.
Three. Months. Of. Asia.
Three months of getting used to fried rice, man-skirts, hijabs, Burmese language, hi-tech cities, buses, noodles, thanaka, hot and humid weather, Malay language, spring rolls, freezing cold, Thai language, trains, poor rural villages, night markets, Chin language, special-needs friends, shop owners, and first grade english students.
Three months of being the tallest person in the area, of wondering if I can flush the toilet paper, and of being constantly surrounded by endless culture.
If I’m being honest, I was NOT looking forward to Asia. The one previous experience I had in this continent left a bad taste in my mouth, so I looked for the route with the least amount of time spent here.
But let me tell you something awesome…. GOD REDEEMS THINGS LIKE THIS.
I can now sit here with confidence in the fact that God has changed my heart. I love what he is doing here. I love what he is doing in the hearts of those who love him, missionary or local alike. He is stirring up something in this region, and I am so blessed to have seen it first hand. I got to see the way that he is bringing about power and strength to those with special needs in Malaysia. I got to see the thought process of what life with Jesus would really be like from people in Thailand. I got to teach 1st graders about the of Jesus and english all in one. Lastly, I got to pray over and intercede for the people of Cambodia.
What an awesome three months it has been… It’s been a season of the Lord growing me and challenging me, and a season of finding identity and strength in being a child of God. Pray for my squad as we start our journey to the third region of our race, AFRICA.
Lesotho, we will see you soon!
In Him,
Caleb Callaway
