On September 8, 2017 I left for World Race Launch. It was a weekend full of fun, hugs, tears, and more training. We were ready to head out for our first month on the field, but Hurricane Irma came rolling in and our flights were canceled. We ended up in a church near Atlanta for a couple of days while we figured out how to get to Colombia. We spent time worshiping, playing games, and just enjoying each others company. After two nights at the church we began our two day trek to Colombia.
We started on a bus to downtown Atlanta, which ended up breaking down so we got on another bus to Downtown Atlanta. We finally made it on our Greyhound and settled for the 24 hour ride to Washington D.C. pretty quickly. We stopped every couple of hours, and I tried to sleep as much as I could with no success. In the middle of the night we had about an hour layover. I have no clue where we were, but it was nice to have a restroom and running water for a moment.
We then hopped on another bus and continued to make our way to Washington D.C. We arrived around 6am at Union Station and we took a train (during rush hour) to get ourselves to the airport. I’m sure you can imagine a bunch of grungy looking 20 year olds with giant backpacks trying to make their way through a busy train station. Anyways, We then switched from the red line to the silver line, just to catch another bus to FINALLY get to the Washington Dulles International Airport. We made it there by nine or ten in the morning and hung out by the ticket counters until 2pm when we checked our bags and got through security. After security we boarded our flight to El Salvador and we made it to Medellin by 3am. By the time we arrived to our ministry site all energy and excitement had been sucked out of me and we all laid on any bed we could find, empty or not and hit the sack.
Here’s a video so you can see what our crazy travel day looked like!
We are just about to leave Colombia and head to Ecuador this week! I am excited to share with you all that God has done this month in Medellin!
I’d love to hear from all of you, please leave a comment or drop me a message!
