Have you ever tried to do a cleanse or a “diet” of some sort that just ended up making you feel like an absolute failure?

Last week I decided I was going to try something new because so far nothing was working, so I started a 7 day veggie cleanse.

Day 1: I was allowed all the fruit I wanted and a veggie soup (the common denominator of the week).

I made it. I ate my hearts content in soup and watermelon and grapefruit and kiwi and I was feeling good.

Day 2: I was allowed all the veggies I wanted and that veggie soup that I was already starting to get sick of but again, I made it.

By day 3, I was just proud of myself because I still was sticking to it pretty well, my energy level was pretty low but I was pushing through…until I wasn’t anymore. I gave in to one meal and I was crushed but at the same time, oddly satisfied because I was so hungry. I couldn’t believe that I had failed at yet another plan though.

Really, I learned that I was just setting myself up to fail. I couldn’t help but notice that each day I wanted something that wasn’t even a part of the week and I just felt bad about it. What I was craving wasn’t a bad thing though, all I wanted was protein but in my mind this was portrayed as something bad because it wasn’t part of the plan. It’s about balance though.

Often times this is something that happens in life and as soon as something comes along that wasn’t what we imagined for our lives, our minds are thrown and we can’t tell if it’s a bad thing or a good thing.

Sometimes, those curveballs that life throws, those were really the plan the whole time and they just came as life lessons to equip you for whatever life may throw at you next.

Don’t sit down and sulk when you don’t make it, instead figure out how to learn from what knocked you down.

Just like when we are setting up a meal plan we should have some balance, in life, we need balance. We need work and schedules but we also need time to do the things we love, time to rest and refuel and time to spend with the people that you care about.

Find your right balance.
