So Haiti has been incredible!
Each day here looks a little different in Montrouis, but on Wednesday afternoon we went prayer walking around the city/village here and each member of the team took turns explaining who we are and what we are doing here, with the help of our awesome translators.
During one of my turns, we went up to a house and were able to pray for a lady. Afterwards our translator took us to the back of a house where we met a man who, when I asked if there was anything that we could pray for him for, said that he wanted to accept Jesus into his life.
I thought to myself, “Oh, okay… well this may be one of the easiest times I’ve evangelized. Ever.”
Despite him saying that, I wanted to make sure that he fully understood what he was asking for, so that the words would hold weight within his heart and that he would truly become a new brother in Christ.
So before praying I explained what it meant to accept Christ into one’s life and what it meant to have a relationship with God, and I asked him if this truly was something that he wanted.
He said yes!
So I told him, “okay, awesome! Why don’t you repeat after me a prayer and accept Him into your life today?”
…And then he said, “Not today; maybe later.”
A bit more than slightly confused, I asked him, through our translator, why he didn’t want to accept Christ today since he said it was all something he wanted.
He then made a Haitian hand motion for “I’m done with this,” but did allow me to pray for him regardless—so I prayed that his heart would continue to become more open to God and His love, and that whatever was holding him back would be gone in the name of Jesus.
Since that moment, this man has not left my mind.
I continue to pray that his heart will become more open and receptive and that it still yearns to accept Jesus Christ, even if he is unsure of it.
Will you join in prayer with me?
Will you pray for this man and all of the other wonderful Haitian people that do not have a personal relationship with Christ? There is the potential for incredible fruit here; but where there is the potential for incredible fruit in the Holy Spirit, there is also the potential for large amounts of spiritual warfare.
Continuing about the prayer walk that day, we were able to pray with close 50 people between both of our teams that went out and even saw a few come to accept Jesus Christ.
We also collected a large group of children, gaining one or two more from each house we visited. Montrouis embodies the phrase, “it takes a village to raise a child,” in the most positive of ways—it is incredible to see and become a part of for a short while.
Here are some pictures with the kids from the rest of the prayer walk.
