This month my team is working with an incredible organization out of Port Elizabeth, South Africa called Love Story (you should look it up)—these people are unique for many different reasons.

So the first day that we were here we had a mini orientation, during which they told us “we don’t need you.”

“Okay…” I thought. “That’s good, because we won’t be here for very long.”

And then they continued to explain what they meant by that statement and it left me in awe.

They explained that they want to be a place of rest for us—which almost brought me to tears.

If you knew me before the race, you would know that resting is not a strong point of mine; I am the type of person who likes to keep going until I have to stop.

And while on the race, I have learned the importance of rest, but some months are easier than others to actually get rest.

But their reasoning didn’t stop at the fact that they want to be a place of rest, but rather they continued and explained that the only time that you truly encounter God on an intimate and personal level is during rest. Sure you can see His works, miracles, and outpouring during times of work, but you don’t get to truly see Him until you are resting.

So needless to say, I am excited for this month. So far I have absolutely loved it and everything about the ministry here (I’ll post a blog later explaining it). And I have loved having the reminder that it is not only okay to rest, but also necessary for intimacy with God.

I pray for and want to challenge you too that you will take the time out of life this week to just sit and rest and get to know God on a deeper level than ever before.

So here’s to resting.

P.S. We also work here too, but as Luke (the founder of Love Story) said, “when we work, we work hard; when we rest, we rest even harder.”
