First things first—at the beginning of this month we had a team change! So this was my first month with my new team and it was wonderful!
Like always here is my photo recap of the month!
This was a month of teaching English! So every morning from 9a to 12p we taught English at our host’s church—Moses (our host) is the pastor. The ladies that we taught were some of the sweetest, most loving women I have ever met and they will forever have a place in my heart.
We also continued ministry in the evenings by teaching English at Moses’ house to people of all ages—mostly university students as well as some church members and all of his children. I absolutely fell in love with these students and their passion for learning and their joy.
This was pretty much the gist of ministry for the month; however, so much more happened.
On Sundays we went to church and listened to a sermon—one week Melissa even preached! Additionally, we led the Sunday School and taught the children Waves of Mercy with all of the motions.
This month both of our host’s daughters celebrated their birthdays and we had the honor of going over to his house to participate in the celebration which included worship, a sermon, and a wonderful, traditional meal cooked by the ladies of the church.
We made so many new friends and I will never forget their friendships, nor their personalities and what each and every one of them taught me.
We also stayed at a guesthouse this month—in Myanmar foreigners are not allowed to stay in native’s homes; therefore, we were blessed to stay in a guesthouse that had wonderful, loving, and extremely hospitable staff. They even taught us how to use and apply thanaka which is a traditional make-up/sunscreen that Myanmar people have used for hundreds of years.
Continuing, I met the sweetest of babies this month and fell in love with her. She made me want to have a baby—or at least a niece (hint, hint Joy and Nathan).
Lastly, Moses’ family, as well as the church members, prepared for us a going away party/meal where we all worshiped around the campfire and even tried goat feet!
All in all, this was an incredible month and one I will never forget. The Myanmar people truly embody the spirit of community and it was so unbelievably evident in how they lived their lives.
Every day we sang a song called “The Greetings Song” which ended with “See Ya Later!” and I truly believe that that will happen. I would love to come back and visit; however, if I don’t God gave me a piece about Myanmar knowing that I will see all of my brothers and sisters in Christ again one day in heaven.
So se ya later Myanmar, you have a piece of my heart forever.
