Hello everyone! Thanks for dropping in to hear about my month in Thailand. I am currently on a 10 hour bus ride headed to Bangkok for our LDW before flying out to Serbia!
First of all, Asia has been amazing. Hot weather, delicious food, kind people. I love Asia. Last month I was in Cambodia staying at a hostel owned by Adventures in Missions, and in Thailand, guess what!? I stayed at another Adventure based hostel in Chiang Mai. To be honest, this was disappointing at first. Not that I didn’t like working with the hostel, but I longed to be out in the sticks staying in a small village living off papayas and coconuts. God had other plans though..
As I’ve mentioned, this month we painted the hostel. Originally the hostel was owned by Christians and throughout the years different World Racers and YWAM missionaries came through and painted beautiful murals all over the walls. All of them spiritual, with different verses, quotes, and worship lyrics. Our job was to paint over the murals. We gave it a clean sharp look, so that this business can reach everyone and not scare away people who aren’t believers.
Painting is often seen as a mundane job. But the way I see it, you can make anything fun by just throwing a little Jesus in there. As we painted we jammed out to all of the music you could think of, from Disney to Lecrae. Needless to say, I had a ton of fun painting alongside my new teammates. This month we built relationships with each other, bonded hard, and loved each other despite our paint stained faces and strange conversations (probably stemming from paint fumes).
The good news is we finished the job. 5 stories, 8 rooms, 9 flights of stairs, including hallways, ceilings, baseboards, doors, and everything in between. We’re basically professionals now.
As the month came to a close I realized just how blessed I am to be surrounded by women of God who care, who are weird, and who understand me. And that even something like painting could bring us together in such a strong way. Yeah, it wasn’t just painting.
We’re ready to take on Europe ????
