Fuerte means strong in Spanish.

That’s what this team was these past 5 months together whether we were separated or all in the same place. Before we were placed together, we were told by leadership that the word that would embody our team was Shalem.

Shalem means a safe place or a place of peace. Looking back, we represented and lived that word out within our community and then also with others we served. I felt like I could be open and comfortable being myself with the full knowledge that I would still be loved because I lived in a place and community that was safe, accepting, and loving.

I have been witness to your service and encompassing, consuming love with our God and Father. I’ve laughed until my stomach ached and survived multiple awkward situations with you. I’ve learned and grown from each of you by being challenged by your selfless, compassionate actions but also your constructive words to push me to be more like Christ. I’ve rolled my eyes a lot and shook my head often at all the ludicrous things that you men did (AKA Songtaew rooftop at 65mph). I’ve been irritated at each of you at one time or another just like family. I’ve eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner with you for 5 months especially Averi and Megan.

We were a team that pursued community, pursued each other, and pursued the Lord. Even the times when we felt we couldn’t or it got difficult, we never stepped away from one another for long. I’m so grateful I was able to be on a team with every one of you!

There are constantly new seasons and new beginnings. For only this month in Costa Rica, I have a new team that is all women! I am overwhelmed with excitement for our ministry and to grow from new people. As well as still from my past teammates Averi and Megan that are still with me!
