Hello!!!! I am in the land of elephants and monks and temples!!!! This is an amazing and crazy country and I am absolutely in love with it!! The mountains and land is breathtaking! Green everywhere to the mountains, to the endlessly looonnggg rice fields! The people here are kind and extremely respectful, we get bowed at all the time on the street! Literally the lower your head goes as you now the more respected you are. So elders and higher powers get the lowest bow.
Now the toilets are extremely interesting, it’s all about your thighs and glutes here peoples. My mother would absolutely love this method of going to the bathroom…..I’m absolutely joking, she would be slightly grossed out. Meet the squatty potty and it’s knack for getting your thighs and booty in fabulous shape. You just squat down and pray nothing goes haywire.
So my team is in a semi remote village in Mae-Ai, Thailand where we teach English to elementary and secondary classes. Let me tell you it is an absolute blast! Whether it’s writing sentences on the board and calling up a blushing student to answer the question or attempting to explain capture the flag to kids, it has never been boring! Our ministry host is the SWEETEST man I have ever had the pleasure to meet. From day one he has done everything in his power to make our lives as easy as possible!
Thailand is pretty much all Buddhist and a very very small percent of the population is Christian, so I am so blessed that at this school we have the ability to teach about the love of Jesus to these Buddhist children who may or may not have never heard about Jesus Christ. We can only thank Kru Dang, our ministry host and senior teacher who also teaches English, for his ability to have paved a way to allow Christianity at an Buddhist school.
Even though it is a teensy bit worse than South Carolina weather, Thailand has captured my heart truly and completely and the hope I have in my heart that Jesus will open their eyes to his glory and wonder and Thailand will realize who really is the God of all!
