Starting in Ecuador Jesus has been walking me through the essentials and basics of Him. When my team and I were able to share about what a life following Jesus is like, I was brought back to why I said yes to him in the first place.
Every word coming out of my mouth was like hearing it for the first time again: the love that he lavishes on us, that we don’t deserve. The reason why Jesus gives us the church: to encourage each other and live life together, not constrained to a building with four walls, and not just a place where I am told what and what not to do. The freedom that he hands us, the grace that never ends, the joy that only increases, and the mercy that is relentless. This is what God has and will offer us till the end.
There was a time in my life that all I wanted was heaven, but Jesus was not a necessity. I was ok having no pain or problems even if Jesus wasn’t present. In reality, heaven wouldn’t be perfect without him. Where would there be love, or peace or the most intimate relationship one could ever imagine? When I was searching for a heaven without Jesus I was walking farther and farther away from perfection.
I am so grateful that Jesus has brought me back to the basics. It’s so easy to lose sight of why I said yes. I said yes because nothing and no one could ever compare to who Jesus is. When I choose Jesus and say yes to loving Him each day, I love others more than I ever could on my own. As simple as it sounds, Jesus just tells us to love, above all else. When we love everything else follows.
Matthew 22:37 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind”
Song of Songs 8:7 “Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.”
