Saying yes in the little things shows one’s devotion to the Lord.  Who we are in the Lord is shaped by what we decide to be obedient in.  Small things that the Lord tells us to do: saying hello to someone or giving someone your belongings are simple things that are easy to say no to.  Telling God no in the small things insures that anything large that he puts on your heart will also be a no.  If we aren’t able to do simple tasks for the Lord how will we ever be able to give everything up for him?

Just the other night I was lying in bed trying to fall asleep when all I could hear was the Lord saying, “Go outside.”  I told him no, and that I was too tired.  He kept persisting that I go outside. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to sleep unless I got up and walked outside.  So I finally gave in and stood in the empty street.  I had no idea what I was doing.  A minute later a man and two women walked out of an apartment and looked at me, and kept walking.  I don’t know why I walked outside that night, but God does.  Someone told me that it was possible that all those people needed was the Holy Spirit’s presence.  I don’t regret walking outside and being obedient to the Lord even though I didn’t see any fruit.  God keeps telling me that his thoughts are higher than mine and so are his ways.  So no matter what he tells me to do or say I can be confident that he is not going to make me do anything I regret.

Each time I say no to the Lord it gets harder and harder to say yes; each time I say yes, it is easier to say it again.
