Sak Pase?!
The Story of Claud
Sak pase? Basically “What’s up?” in Haitian Creole…..so yes if you didn’t catch the update on my blog from the other day, we are in Haiti! The people here are amazing and one of the first people my team and I we’re blessed with the opportunity to meet was Claud. Claud is a middle aged Haitian man that knows 4 different languages and taught us the first Haitian phrase I ever learned. “Sak pase?” was the beginning of a marvelous conversation about some questions Claud had about Christianity and life. He is a very smart man and had some great questions for us. He asked things such as “Why do bad things happen to good people?” and if you had to be good to be a Christian. He said what was holding him back from accepting Jesus as his savior was that he messes up too much and he needs to fix his life. This opened up the door for us to get the chance to dig deep. Our squad leader Zack did most of the talking and we got to share that you don’t need to dress a certain way, act a certain way, or say certain things. That God loves you for who He made you to be and thats all you have to do. Just be you. Not only was this good for Claud to hear, but also for me. It made me realize that people all around the world care about what people think about them, just like I sometimes do. It shouldn’t matter what other people think about me because God created me to be exactly who I am and not anyone else.
(Extra bit Because Kids are Awesome)
Seriously though I love every child in this country. The second you step off the bus you are engulfed in a swarm of children raising their arms up to you to hold them. They love to spend time with you, hold your hand, and climb up your body like a jungle gym. The most beautiful part about them is that they don’t care about their situation. Their smiles are ear-to-ear 100% of the time and make sure they spend as much time with you as possible. Even when they ask you for a dollar and you say no they just laugh. It makes me think, how can they just be so joyful all the time? Back in America if I forget my phone when I go somewhere i’m mad the whole day. I believe they tend to see the good in every situation and thats what I am challenging you as well as myself in. Try to start finding the good in every situation, because there is. Even when things aren’t going the way you want it, try to find the positive thing. I think this will make it easier to spread happiness, which we could use a good bit of. God bless! Have an amazing day!
