Steps to taking a bucket shower:
-Stand in 10-45 minute line
-Fill 5 gallon bucket with hose water
-Carry heavy bucket to stall (embrace your inner farm girl)
-Shove clothes in-between 2×4’s and hope they don’t fall
-Splash water from bucket on to stomach (to get past the initial shock of freezing water)
-Keep breathing
-Apply soap and scrub body
-Scoop water from bucket with a cup and dump it on your head
-Shampoo & and dump more water on head
-Condition.. more water
-Scoop water from bucket onto head until soap is sufficiently gone
-Dump what water is left in the bucket directly on your head from the bucket
-Attempt to dry body with travel towel
-Get dressed (most likely wearing dirty clothes from 3 days ago that are aired out… kinda)
*To make the process slightly enjoyable, converse with the girls in the stalls beside you about how you just really wish you were drinking a extra hot soy latte, or about how legit and outdoorsy you feel.
It sounds weird, but I could totally get used to this. Guess I’ll have to. Not even complaining. The simple life is sweet.
Training camp was full of a lot of firsts for me. First time taking bucket showers, eating crickets, sleeping in my Eno, hiking with my 28 pound pack on my back, and being vulnerable with 49 strangers who have already become my family. It was also my first time at attempting to quiet my mind and listen for the Holy Spirit to speak to me.
It was ten packed days of sessions, scenarios, group activities, workouts, worship, ministry, and eating meals from different countries (aka, an abundance of rice). It was hard and exhausting at times. But it was wildly good. I am back from the beautiful countryside of Gainesville, GA and I am grateful for this last month at home before this upcoming journey chasing Jesus all over the world.
I haven’t given myself much time to process everything yet. That will happen over the next few days and I’ll be blogging about more “deep stuff” and other details (such as how stinkin cool my squad is) so stay posted. Pretty please with a cherry on top subscribe to my blog! I’d love to have y’all along for the adventure. If you’re confused about how to do that, just send me your email!
Thanks for covering my squad and I in prayers and supporting me financially. If you would like to support me in this way and you haven’t yet, NOW is the time! I am so close to being fully funded. Praise God! He is SO gooood. I could never say, shout it, or sing it enough.
