“Wild Women Chasing After the Lord”

That’s what my Squad Mentor, Fran, declared over my squad of 20 women for this next year of our lives.

“You will also declare a matter, and it will be established unto you; and the light will shine upon your ways” (Job 22:28, MEV).

My team believes her declaration will come to pass; C-Squad will be wild women chasing after the Lord whole-heartedly.

That’s where the word “wild” comes in for the name my team chose. So no, not like the “Girls gone wild” wild. We desire to be so in love with Jesus that we look foolish, silly, ridiculous, and nonsensical to those around us.

The best biblical picture of what this looks like is when King David danced in the streets in his underwear as they brought the Ark of the Covenant back into Jerusalem.

“And David was dancing before the Lord with great enthusiasm, and David was wearing a linen ephod [a priest’s upper garment]

Then, as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter [David’s wife], looked down from the window above and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she felt contempt for him in her heart [because she thought him undignified].

Then David returned to bless his household. But [his wife] Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How glorious and distinguished was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself and stripped [off his kingly robes] in the eyes of his servants’ maids like one of the riffraff who shamelessly uncovers himself!”

21 So David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord [that I did this]… yet I will demean myself even more than this, and will be humbled (abased) in my own sight [and yours, as I please].

King David was unashamed of worshipping God who is worthy of all praise. He didn’t care about what other people thought, not even his wife. He loved God so much he was willing to look like a wild man for Him.

“Fire” is a powerful metaphor in the bible. In the New Testament, fire is associated with the Holy Spirit and God’s presence. When the day of Pentecost had come, (after Jesus’ ascension into Heaven) Jesus’ followers were all together in one place, and they received the gift of the Holy Spirit that looked like tongues of fire over their heads. This “fire” rested on them and transformed their lives forever. They went from being weak and fearful to a group of men boldly proclaiming the gospel, even to the point of a gruesome death.

This same fire that fell upon the apostles and changed their lives, is what my team yearns to unleash.

The “s” was added at the end of fire to represent our squad’s Salt Covenant.

Fran was the one who informed us of what a salt covenant is at training camp. She explained that in the ancient world, salt was a rare and valuable commodity. It was once used as currency (The word “salary” comes from an ancient word meaning “salt-money,” referring to a Roman soldier’s allowance for the purchase of salt) and exchanging salt was a way to make an agreement legally binding. If two parties entered into an agreement, they would exchange salt together in the presence of witnesses, and that act would bind their contract.

Well, that’s exactly what we did. Our squad made a salt covenant with God and with each other committing to giving up our wants, our desires, and our own agendas, so that we can grow in our faith, fully follow Jesus and bring His Kingdom on earth.

The name Wild Fires truly is a representation of my team and I’m excited to walk along side of these 6 women as we begin our ministry on the World Race!
