One of the way the Lord speaks to me is through the Ocean. I can’t explain quite why, but there is just something about it that draws me nearer to Him. Whenever I am there, I feel completely, utterly at peace…. as if nothing in the world could distract me in that moment.
On our way to launch my family stopped in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a few days. I spent quite a bit of time simply walking up and down the beach hunting for shells and sea glass, talking with our Heavely Father. I would watch the waves crash against the shore, feel the cool waters rush over my bare feet, and simply stand in aweof His creation.
During worship this week the Lord revealed something to me. He brought me back to the beach mentally, and as we walked along the shore I felt that overwhelming peace flood over me.
He told me to look at His hand, and He showed me a piece of Jade-green sea glass resting in His palm.
He asked me, “Do you think this is beautiful?”
“Yes, of course I do” I replied matter-o-factly. He knows how much I love seaglass, so there wasn’t any doubt in my mind concerning it.
“But.. it’s broken. The edges are uneven and it’s jagged.” He replied.
With a chuckle I said, “That’s why I love it! It’s special and unique. Yes, it may be broken, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still beautiful.”
He gave me a soft smile and paused for a moment…. and that’s when I understood what He was getting at.
He sees me the same way.
I have been broken in many places; tossed by the waves of life without thought or concern. But do you know what? Even though I’ve been chipped and cracked in reality I’m still a beautiful, unique piece of sea glass. The Lord is sending me through the process of being polished, and He is beggining to smooth out the hard edges, and places that are still sharp to the touch. No matter what I face in life God will always see me as His beloved, even though all I may see is a broken piece of glass.
Sea glass-broken pieces made beautiful.
