Since I first starting throwing around the idea of missions, there was always something in the back of my mind that scared me to carry it out. And that little thing is called fear. Fear’s definition reads as: to be afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or threatening. But I believe it can go much farther than that. Fear can cripple us, make us feel like we are hopelessly stranded, sinking in a sea we can never escape. It can haunt our thoughts and keep us up into the late hours of the night, and I know that it is something all people have struggled with. We all have something we are afraid of, whether it be rejection, embarrassment, pain, struggle, death, etc. Something that I have learned is that there is only one way to conquer that fear completely, and that is by having faith and trusting in our Lord Jesus Christ to protect us from that fear.
So as I begin this journey through the World Race, there are many fears that strike me. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of rejection from my team, fear of not raising all my funds, and the list could go on and on. But one thing I have learned over the past years is that God is bigger than any fear I will ever have. Because God has not given his people a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) Even though The World Race does scare me in some ways and there are many unknowns that rack my brain at two in the morning, I know that God is bigger than anything of this world. The phrase “ do not be afraid” is written in the bible 365 times. Which means that every day we have a reminder to live fearlessly as we go throughout our lives. As long as I put all my faith in him, fear has no power over me. I will not let it reign over my life. There is only one person allowed to do that, and He has already claimed His throne.
So I am ready. Ready to start this new chapter of my life through the World Race. There will be hardships and struggles, but there will also be joys and laughter and growth.
So come at me fear,
let’s get in the ring.
Because my God is greater, stronger and more powerful than anything you can throw at me.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” ( Joshua 1:9)
