This past month in Lesotho I grew in so many ways. It was a beautiful mountainous country and a Jesus loving culture. It has been one of the best months of the race. My new team (Mirador Mermaids) got to do ministry with another team this month (The Powerful Pinatas) and it we made some great memories.
Living wise we ended up in a mission house in the mountains. And when I say mountains I mean there were no straight or flat roads. The only flat land was in the yards of houses and even that wasn’t much. I slept in a teal colored room on the top bunk with a very comfy mattress. We opened the windows at night to let in the cool breeze at night because there are NO MOSQUITOS! 😀 Another win is that we had three dogs for the month. An almost brindle giant mutt (Rex – My favorite), a black lab (Roofie AKA Ruby – The missionaries dog), and a small blonde mutt (Faith – a rambunctious puppy). We also had three wonderful women cooking three meals a day for us. It alternated between really delicious traditional dishes and some American favorites. There were a couple nights where we just had fries and a single boiled egg for dinner. We only had a couple days where the water was running so we mostly took cup and bucket showers. We survived.
Ministry required us to be flexible (like most months) and ready to share a word or testimony at the drop of a hat. Our schedule changed daily with some consistency on types of ministry. We did ministry in the prison on Wednesdays and gardened in the evenings. Everyday we had people going to give a word and pray at the clinic and then later we all went down to the Church/Christian school to do maintenance. (Putting up barbwire fence, weeding, picking up trash, and relocating the playground. Sometimes we went on prayer walks or helped in a bakery.
For adventure/days off/free time I sometimes hung out with the kitchen staff learning or teaching new games. Other times I went over to a missionaries home and played with the kids or watched Survivor. (Now I am a little addicted.. ) And for a little more adventure we drove to another village to ride horses (for less than $6 USD!) and on the way there we stood up in the back of the truck while going up and through the mountains. It was a really fun little adventure and I really want to ride horses more often.
This past month taught me a lot of joy and I saw God a lot in the beautiful hills, valleys, and mountains.
Wifi still not the greatest this month.
