I had an experience that really changed me, and increased my faith in a way I’ll never let go of. It was a miracle, among many that I’ve witnessed since giving my life to Christ.
There’s a good chance you’ve already heard this story!
It was June 2016, and I was at a “Rally Night” for all the Young Adults at my church, and we were told to pray with someone, and to have the courage to share something God might put on our hearts to share with someone, like encouragement or a message. I was feeling resistant that night, so as soon as I heard that I thought, “NOPE.” But right as we entered worship, I felt like God gave me a person and a simple message. I don’t know her well and I didn’t want to do it! But the feeling got stronger and I tried to pray not to have the feeling, but then I felt sure it was God nudging me. So I obeyed. I don’t feel like I had any crazy miraculous thing to share, but I felt relieved after just obeying God.
Immediately after, I really was feeling an awesome peace and God’s presence as I worshipped. I had a conversation with God saying:
- I’m afraid of falling into my old ways, and becoming my old self.
But I can choose better, I am new, and my past doesn’t define me. - I am valuable, so I won’t try to make dating happen anymore. I trust that when the time is right, God will lead this. I’m too good to settle for dating the wrong person.
- Lord, show me more of Jesus. Help me to really understand because it’s hard to believe sometimes.
Then as worship ended, a girl I’ve met a few times at church came up to me, “I know this may seem really weird, but do you like Peter Pan?”
My jaw DROPS, and I’m like, “YES woah I’ve been singing this Peter Pan song all day and thinking about the lyrics in great depth (Lost Boy by Ruth B), and even thinking about the movie “Hook” right before I got here. What?!!?”
She proceeded to tell me three visions she had for me:
- The clock and the crocodile meaning “You’re afraid your past is going to catch up with you. The crocodile being your past, and the clock meaning its only a matter of time.”
- A treasure chest meaning “God says you’re a treasure.”
- An “X” over you and then Jesus with an “X” on his back meaning “You aren’t who you were and Jesus already took the lashes for your sin so that you could be new. He paid the price already.”
I stood there absolutely astonished and in total awe of God, tears streamed from my face all night as I felt God. JUST WOW. Everything I just spoke to God was confirmed to me, and I’ve never EVER felt more seen and heard by God. I now have no doubt of God’s love, power, and the reality of who Jesus Christ is and was. This is the story that fuels me on hard days. God blessed me with that awesome word, and I think that my willingness to obey may have lead to it. But be encouraged, God is always with us, and we are never alone!
