Cerebral Palsy & Rachael

Have you ever felt you were doing something right and someone told you to do it another way?

So annoying

But when God tells you…

So effective

Gee God did this last week. Let me tell you the story.

My team and I are at a refugee home. Our hosts (Momma Gracie and Poppy Lee) take in children who have been rescued from rape or incest situations.

Kinda heavy huh?

Just wait.

Amongst the adorable children here at Heart of Christ, there are two precious girls with Cerebral Palsy. This is where the story begins.

As I entered I saw 4 little eyeballs staring at me with toothy grins. Three large foam mats lay side by side and stretch across half the room. The girls’ skinny limbs, twisted and bent lay on the mats.

As I approached, I saw the smile of an angel beam across each face. The cerebral palsy might have taken over their bodies, but it in no way shape or form did it take over their joy.

I quickly sat down and started to hold each girl individually. I played with their hair, had one-way conversations with them, tickled them until they burst into laughter and prayed over each girl.

As I was praying over one of the girls, I pleaded with the Lord, “I want so badly for them to be as capable as I am. I want them to experience everything I am.”

“That’s not the purpose in which I created them. See the things          they do better than you”

I’ve learned not to question God because He knows a little more than I do about, well….everything.

So I started.

And I still haven’t stopped.

As I switched from girl to girl, I was astonished by the quantity of things I value that was better displayed in the girls.

They knew how to rest! And they did it so well.

They were the BEST listeners. I strive to be as patient with other people as they are with me. Especially when I’m rambling to them about petty things. Bless

One of these sweet angels has THE softest hands ya ever did feel. Seriously! Fly to Honduras and see for yourself—you won’t be disappointed.

Every person who stepped foot in that building was warmly welcomed. These girls loved everyone!

If I had their flexibility, I’d be a gymnast. The tallest one of all time ha!

I walked away with a new perspective.

A new appreciation.

A new love for God’s heart.

That day changed The World Race for me.

It changed my life.
