Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed…..
Anyone who knows me well, knows that this is not a term used to describe me. EVER.
Recently however, my roommates came up with a plan to have prayer together every Friday morning at 7:00AM
You can probably imagine my hesitation to this.
You would think that waking up at 5:45am every weekday would give me enough time to be a semi-social human being by 7:00am. Instead, I drag my feet and say as few words as possible to anyone in the vicinity.
In fact, as a teenager, I would not utter a word to anyone for the first two hours of the morning. Anyone that dared would be met with a silent glare or a half coherent grumbled response.
*I have 3 roommates – and I love each one dearly! Living with these 3 has been AWESOME and I will miss them terribly when I leave for the trip.*

So, that first Friday morning rolled around and I made my way to the living room which has become our designated prayer meeting place.
First, we go around in a circle and each girl gets to say what they’d like prayer for – celebrating good news, stress at work or school, or just something personal.
Lastly, each of us will pray for one other person until each girl has been prayed for before closing and heading off our separate ways for the day.
I gotta say – I’m still a little quiet and antisocial at first, but prayer just warms my heart right up! THIS is the definition of unity and fellowship! Coming together with our fellow sisters (or brothers) in Christ to support and lift each other up!
Prayer completely changes how my day starts and goes. When my day is started with prayer and time in God’s word, it goes soooooo much better than if I don’t!
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 tells us:
9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
10 If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
12 Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is NOT quickly broken.
There is POWER in prayer and this power is multiplied when we pray together! It provides support and clarity in a blurred world.
Most importantly, prayer draws us closer to Jesus and praying together lets us hear Jesus in new ways.
As Timothy Keller says:
“To pray is to accept that we are, and always will be, wholly dependent on God for everything.”
