Last week a few of my team members and I had the opportunity to go visit and encourage a Christian family in the city that we’ve been living in this month.

When we walked into their small kitchen and sat on their floor we were greeted by two young boys—ages eight and ten—and their aunt. A few minutes later a three year old neighbor boy stumbled in and sat on the boys laps. Gradually the room filled up as the boys parents and other family members joined us.

We conversed with the two boys, the only English speakers in the room, about running, basketball, Pokemon, and school on their kitchen floor as their mom served us chai. We learned that the boys each spoke four to five languages.

After chatting with the boys, we shared some Bible stories and had the opportunity to pray over them and their family.

As we walked out of the house, we were escorted over to the house across the street. The neighbors had seen us praying for the boys and invited us in.

We walked into a narrow room with one couch where they had us sit while the women of the family—a woman with her daughter and young niece, and an elderly neighbor woman—sat on the floor in front of us.

Through a local pastor who served as our translator, we learned that the eighteen-year-old daughter was the only Christian in the family and was working to complete eighth grade this year. The younger girl’s mother was in the hospital recovering from a difficult childbirth, the woman’s son suffered from seizures, and her husband was an alcoholic. While she was interested in Jesus, her husband wouldn’t allow her to follow Him.

As we sat there hearing their story, some of my team members and others who had come with us were able to share parts of their stories and give these women hope. We were able to tell them that their Savior is pursuing them. And, we were invited to pray over them.

God placed us right where He wanted us that evening, and I’m so excited to be a part of what He is already doing in this community.

Ministry this month has looked different each day, but here are a few glimpses into the month so far:

Also, you never know when that musical you performed in third grade or that talk you prepared for Young Life last year will come in handy. They sure did for me this month.
