One of the questions I have gotten a lot this past year is 

“What are you taking with you?” 

So, for those of you who have asked (or are curious), here is a glimpse into what I am taking with me in the two bags I will be living out of for the next 11 months.

First, here is a glance at what is going to be in my 70L backpack:

  1. bug spray and sunscreen
  2. small laundry bag
  3. a book to share with my squad and an extra journal
  4. trail running shoes
  5. airporter (to protect my bag while traveling)
  6. baby wipes
  7. various medicines
  8. Life Straw (to purify/filter water)
  9. colored pencils, craft scissors, small post-it notes
  10. mini-straightener
  11. collapsible bowl, spork, head lamp, small light, mug, clothesline
  12. Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket
  13. Sea-to-Summit Daylight Towel
  14. Eno Bug Net
  15. Soco Hammock
  16. socks, swimsuit, and underwear
  17. toiletry bag
  18. sleeping bag
  19. tent (and poles, not pictured)
  20. two tanks, six shirts, long sleeve, and one knee-length dress
  21. three shorts, two pants, and two skirts

The next picture shows what I will be carrying in my daypack (which will be my carry-on bag):

  1. pencils and pens, small ruler
  2. baby wipes
  3. card games
  4. sleeping pad (in case we have a long layover)
  5. bible, planner, journal
  6. chargers, extra batteries, headphones, small surge protector
  7. sleeping bag liner (in case we have a long layover)
  8. travel size shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, and toothbrush (TSA compliant)
  9. Macbook
  10. small wallet with ID, Charles Schwab card, credit card, health insurance, etc
  11. Kindle
  12. external hard drive
  13. 32oz water bottle
  14. sleep mask (and earplugs, not pictured)
  15. sun glasses
  16. Kavu (fits inside daypack, if necessary)
  17. compressible pillow
  18. long dress, chambray shirt (change of clothes appropriate for India, in case bag is lost), pillow case
  19. rain cover for backpack
  20. passport with yellow fever vaccine verification
  21. Turkish towel (doubles as a scarf or blanket!)
  22. rain jacket

Not Pictured: iPhone (used to take photos), Chacos and Flannel (which I will be wearing), and anything else I might think of in the next month before launch.
