When I think about the last year leading up to the world race, I think about some of the little things that make me happy.

I think about sitting at Poet’s, drinking a chai tea, and fervently typing assignments that were due soon.
I think about sitting on my bed with my roommate, Abbie, while we talk about the day or life in general.
I think about night time prayers with my mommy.
I think about special dinner dates with just me and my daddy.
I think about driving the 5 minute distance to my Nannys house and playing with my cousins and my niece…all the time.

I think of the small things. The little, seemingly insignificant moments. The moments that aren’t really life changing or extreme, but they are the ones that stick out to me the most.

I am really trying to focus on those small, seemingly insignificant moments while I am on the World Race. These are the moments that make up our lives. Yes the big things are cool…graduation, marriage, babies…they are all great and live up to the title of “big moments”, but we really don’t need to only focus on those moments.

I often found myself, before they happened, looking forward to the next big thing…going to college, finishing college, the world race… and after they come and are gone then I look forward to the next big moment…marriage, babies, a career, but what about ALL the little moments in between?

So today I am focusing on what is happening today.

I am focusing on the sweet babies I am working with this month.
I am focusing on chipping paint off the walls of our ministry home, because that is the best way to serve my host this month.
I am focusing on spending quality time with my team because it is our last month together.
I am focusing on running most mornings so I can be the best version of myself when I return home.
I am focusing on reading my Bible and spending time with the Lord and growing in intimacy with Him.

I am focusing on the little moments because without them there cannot be the big moments.

My challenge to you from the mission field in Nicaragua, is to focus on the little things because they are so important and make up the rest of your life. Find joy in the small things and praise God for such a beautiful moment…each moment.

Blessings,

Niki
