When God puts something on my heart, I’m learning to say (a sometimes timid) “yes”. God is constantly speaking to each of us. He speaks to me, to my teammates, and even to you, dear reader. He recently spoke to my teammate Kirsty and put something on her heart. She felt a few weeks back that God really wanted to heal some people. We didn’t really know who, or how He wanted to do it, we just knew that it was something that He wanted for us to take part in.
So we did something about it. We did something bold. We made a sign that read “free healing”, and we bravely set out in the town of Ubud, Bali, a very Hindu and spiritual place, and bared our sign for all to see. We walked the streets and prayed that God would send people our way. I have never done anything like this in my life.
As we walked around, I couldn’t help but think, “oh my gosh, we’re those crazy people that I always avoid”.
But on we went. God was faithful and sent people our way! We had a chance to speak to many different people. Our sign attracted lots of stares and curious glances, but it was a great conversation starter. One Balinese man asked us several times, “why are you doing this?”. He couldn’t seem to get passed the fact that we were offering to pray for healing for people without wanting any money in return. We simply kept telling him that we love Jesus and He loves people and He wants them to be healed. Again, he continued to wonder why, as almost everyone else we talked to, did. Some people commented how it was nice to “spread the love” or “spread the good vibes”.We were able to proclaim the love of Jesus, and that we have far more than “good vibes” to give. Those things may sound nice, but they are fleeting. It is only the power of the love of Jesus and the transformation that comes through Him that is far more powerful and lasting than anything else we can offer on our own.
I think my heart has been more opened to doing what I would have previously considered crazy or weird, because honestly, I would rather look weird and obey my King, than act on what I deem to be normal and say no to the things that He has pressed on my heart. Its definitely a learning process, and I still have far to go, but each time I say yes and take a step of faith, He proves Himself faithful to walk me through it and work His power through me. That is the biggest testament to my heart of His power and goodness.
Jesus wants to heal and transform this broken world, and amazingly enough, He invites us be apart of that. So be bold. Ask Him if there is anything that He would have you do. We all have a part to play, be we each need to be willing to say yes and walk in faith, knowing that He will make a away and work as only He can.
