I started my day on Saturday with a prayer.
“Lord, I want to experience You in the mundane.”
I See You …was His reply.
Walking along a red dirt path on my way to a Rwandan choir practice I heard Him;
I See You.
Holding hands with village children who greet us on the road while they all run and skip alongside us, speaking in a multitude of languages. I heard Him then;
I See You.
Dancing barefoot on dirt floors with the church choir, praising God through song and vigorous dancing. Their three-hour preparation for church the following morning. Dripping sweat. Smiling from ear to ear.
I See You.
Eating dinner at 9pm, falling asleep sitting up.
I See You.
Sunday morning. “Lord, I am tired. My body, mind, and spirit are weary from these months of outpouring. I don’t know if I can go on. I don’t know if I can keep doing this.”
You are tired. But I am not.
Come to me you who are weary, and I will give you rest.
I give power to the faint, and to him who has no might I increase strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Our host, our African mom, the pastor of the church we are attending and an extremely strong woman of God – greets us in her office once we arrive.
She tells us she received a word from God. That she is to treat us as sisters. Not as a World Race team. Sisters.
She said the Spirit told her that we would find rest in one another. She in us, us in her.
I told her my words that I received from the Lord that morning. How I told Him I was tired. And I didn’t know it yet, but the words He spoke to me were meant for her as well as my team. She wanted to share a revelation with us, but I already knew. Because He sees us. He cares. And He wants us to know.
We spent the remaining time before the service sharing and praying together. As sisters in Christ. We are all weary, and God knows. He is providing rest for us. He is saying,
I See You!
I know you!
I love you!
Let Me be your Strength.
Let Me be your Refuge.
As we joined the service, we each felt renewed. We felt encouraged. We felt refreshed by the scriptural act of bearing one another’s burdens.
We sang with the choir. We danced with the congregation. We jumped all around. Music filled the sanctuary and we felt more comfortable in church than we’d ever felt before. Dancing in church should be a thing everywhere!! We should always celebrate who God is with all of our energy, until we are left breathless and sweating, then celebrate more!
Over the span of five hours, we were anointed with holy oil from Israel. We were prophesied over. We saw multiple people delivered from demonic influences. We saw a woman walk again for the first time in five years. God healed her. When I raised my hand to pray for her, I felt my entire arm heat up. Not only did she walk, she danced. She praised the Lord. The church erupted into celebration.
All the while, I heard the Lord saying,
I See You.
You see, nothing is mundane if you invite God in. In a moment that might feel just like any other moment, He sees you. You are significant. The Word speaks about how God’s eyes are ever upon the righteous. His ears hear our cries and He is quick to deliver us from our afflictions. Even when I’m hot and tired, missing home, or when my mind is drifting and thinking about nothing in particular, He sees me. When I’m in the midst of a wild celebration, He sees me. When I’m experiencing the Holy Spirit in new ways like in an African church service, He sees me. Not only does He see me – His thoughts for me are more than the grains of sand on all the beaches in the world. He is paying attention. And when we reciprocate that, when we pay attention to Him, the mundane can become magical. We can hear Him speaking more and more clearly. Nothing pleases Him more than when His children choose to dwell in His presence. My desire is to continually sit at His feet – even in the tiniest moments.
