Last week we spent a few days with some other World Race squads at something they call the Awakening. During this we were asked to sign up for a group to help with for the 3 days. Our options were worship, evangelism, prayer team, hospitality, and storytelling. Each of these either scared the crap outta me or just wasn’t something I felt I could do, so at first I just put off signing up till the night before we had to know what we were doing. So I started praying about it and the Lord said “do worship”, and under my breath (with a small chuckle) came the words “bro, I can’t sing” (que slightly southern accent trying to be ghetto) but still the Lord said “worship”. I continued to fight with daddy God on this till the speaker for the night came on stage and was all “say yes when you are called” so I reluctantly signed up for worship. When we split into the groups the Lord immediately started showing me why he had placed me there. I’ve always known that worship was more than just singing to the Lord but when I heard the word “worship” that’s what immediately came to mind. But when the first worship leader stepped up to talk to us the first words to come out of her mouth were “I have no musical talent what so ever” and at that moment I thanked the Lord for persistently urging me to follow his call. We all then went around and said what made us sign up for worship and I explained how the Lord really gave me no choice. So I got put in the group that was in charge of letting people do other forms of worship (and two other people in the group were from Texas #Blessed). The next morning I ended up speaking on having a place where you go to in your mind where it’s just you and Jesus with no other distractions which is something very important to me because I literally get distracted by EVERYTHING.
This whole thing got me thinking, so I decided to look up the word “worship” I didn’t really get a clear definition but I did notice that a synonym for each definition was “honor” and realized that worship isn’t just something you do at a set time, but it’s how you should live your life. Anytime you are doing something that is honoring to the Lord you are worshiping Him.
Isaiah 29:13
And so the Lord says,
“These people say they are mine.
They honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
And their worship of me
is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.
YIKES!!!! This verse hit me like a train. So imma just sit with that for a bit and might get back to ya…
