I went to Florida recently and have been thinking about the beach (even though I didn’t go) since. I love the beach…I love sitting right where the water hits the beach sand, enjoying the perfect balance of hot sand and cool water on my toes. That’s my safe place…the shore…the edge of the water. I’m fascinated by the ocean. I think it’s absolutely beautiful to look at, but slightly terrifying to be in. I gladly admire the grace, strength, power, and variance of the ocean waves from a distance…from my safe place on the shore.
As I day dream about my ideal beach day, I can’t help but notice the parallels between my perfect beach moment and my relationship with the Lord. I see myself sitting comfortably on the shore in my walk with Lord…walking barely ankle deep along the shore line…all the while, vast depths of adventure, mystery, and beauty lie right before me…right within reach. I consistently long to experience greater depths in my relationship with the Lord, to navigate uncharted waters, and to take in all that lies beneath. As you explore the depths of the ocean, there is specific life and terrain present only at certain depths….each beautifully exclusive and unique. This is how I picture my relationship with the Lord…there are unique sights and experiences exclusively located, and perfectly suited at specific depths in my walk with Him. And I want it all!
I hear the Lord saying, “You’ll never navigate the deep waters that you long for from the shore…get in the water, and dive deep.” So, daily I choose to respond as He calls me further away from the shore. There’s no more time for hesitation. Each step forward with the Lord will be well worth the risk…so…dive deep!
Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. ~Psalm 42:7
Speaking of steps forward…in 10 days, I’ll be leaving to meet up with my squad for launch, to begin this journey through the 10/40 window, bearing the name of Jesus Christ, for the next 11 months!! But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?
