Hey everyone!!! I made it to GUATEMALA. About two weeks ago we left Honduras and traveled around 17 hours on a bus to Antigua, Guatemala. This place has quickly won my heart.
We are staying at an Adventures in Missions base near Antigua. Of course with a new country comes a new ministry! We are working at a school called Colegio CEI. We do many different things at the school like help clean, decorate the class rooms, and help teach classes. We also have the chance to do devotions with the students once a week. The students are “middle school” ages. But I’ve found out that most of the kids are actually from the age of 13 to as old as 18 years old. So our devotions usually turn into basically a youth group filled with around 60 students. Half of the students aren’t christians or haven’t asked the lord to come into their hearts. So the opportunity we have to pour into their lives for a solid two months is amazing. I have only been working at the school for about two weeks and I have already built relationships that I cherish with the “kids”. They make me laugh about 100 times day. There is sometimes a struggle when they are spouting off Spanish to me as I spout off English to them and we both expect the other to understand. So my communication usually turns into a fun game of charades. But I can tell these kids are hungry to know more about the God who loves them beyond measure. A lot of them have head knowledge of the Bible and Jesus…but I hope that during the time I’m here I get to help them have those truths sink deep into their hearts and start building a relationship with the God they read stories about.
