Only 8 days left of my World Race! Here’s the top 8 things I recommend putting in your pack!

Deciding what to pack for the World Race definitely gave me a headache before I left. Here’s some of the best advice I can give- while every route is different and has different needs, I feel that most female racers would benefit from these things.

  1. Ditch the headlamp for a lantern. Sure they come in handy at training camp, but that’s about it. I brought both a headlamp and a lantern on my race. I rarely if ever used my headlamp but used my lantern all the time. Check out the Black Diamond Orbit lantern. It’s super compact, light weight, it can light up an entire room or be dimmed for reading. I went to Ikea and got a tiny USB charger for the batteries for dirt cheap. The only thing that would make this better would be a solar powered lantern. Some people brought those too and they worked well.
  1. Bring that pair of Nike shorts/ your comfortable short shorts. Sure you can’t wear them to ministry but you will be glad for them when you are sleeping in hot and humid climates
  1. Crocs sandales are great for shower shoes and double as nicer shoes for church. Beware though you can feel every rock and stone through them so don’t make them your main pair of shoes. But they’re light weight and skinny and lasted the whole race.
  1. Small sewing kit. I got a really tiny one at the Container Store.. You don’t need much but you will need to patch or sew things on the race.
  1. Pocket projector. For people who do bring their computers- and a lot of racers do- this makes movie watching ten times better, and you never know when you will need to display lyrics at church because guess what- you’re running the service! I got a super tiny Brookstone projector for only 25$ on Amazon.
  1. Travel yoga mat and resistance band. Figure out your workout in advance. I downloaded Beach Bodies on my phone. A lot of people will want to work out together and the yoga mat is great for many things, it also works well as a sleeping pad for those nights in the airport.
  1. Get Norwax towels. The silver in the washcloth means you can clean your body without body wash and you will want a towel that can really hold moisture. The quick dry ones just aren’t great.
  1. Hydro flask- not Nalgene. In hot climates you will be grateful when your water isn’t boiled. Hydroflasks are harder to clean though. Buy the cleaning tablets to go with them.

P.S. I am still 1600 away from fully funded for my trip to evangelize on the Camino in Spain! Here is the link if you would like to join me next month in sharing the Gospel! https://www.gofundme.com/camino-for-christ
