We all want an easy fix to our problems. Here’s a problem: now God please solve this for me. No one wants to struggle, everyone wants God to take away the hard time they’re going through. But sometimes it takes hard times to grow in your faith and for God to get your attention. We look for quick fixes all around us. One really difficult thing for me while I’ve been home from training camp is social media. It takes away so much of my time and attention. The problem for me is that social media in itself isn’t inherently bad so I don’t want to completely get rid of it all for good because it helps connect us to others. It’s only bad when it’s an addiction and when it takes you out of the moment. For me personally I struggle with self control. So my quick fix is to delete all social media. But the real “root” per say of the problem is that I’m lacking self control. Yes deleting it all will help for a short time, but as soon as my media detox is over its only a matter of a few days before I’m hooked again. The long term fix is to practice discipline in all aspects of life. When we start to follow Him our thoughts and actions will start to become more like His. While I am on the Race my goal is to be present. To enjoy the moment for what it is: a beautiful gift from God. And to not feel the need to capture on camera every single moment. So here’s to less social media, more self control and more time spent in the Word.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity but of power, love and self -discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7
