Walking into the Las Rosas school, I initially felt unprepared to work there at all. I’ve never really had much experience with special needs people and so trusting that the Lord brought me here for a reason was important. The first day I learned a little bit about each of the five, and sometimes six, kids in my class and just became accustomed with what the day looks like there. We go from 9am-1pm every weekday and our first day was last Wednesday, by now, the next Thursday, I can confidently say that I’ve not only gotten used to the swing of things there, but I’ve gotten to know and love so many of the children there!!! We have a few recesses throughout the period of time my team is there, one every hour for about 20-30 minutes, and at those times we get to interact with the children from the other classes! One guy I met who I’ve really gotten to know outside my class is Jaime, and he’s amazing!!! He loves the bands Genesis and Rage Against the Machine and can speak a great amount of English!! He comes to the youth group on Saturdays and I’m hoping to see him in church on Sunday too!! I see the Lord’s love and heart in all the workers at the school and through the children I see the comfortability that they bring to them and the genuine relationship between them. It’s beautiful to see and I hope that in the last couple of weeks I can get to a point similar to that with at least of few of them. The Lord’s love for all people is so immeasurably vast and unique. I’m blessed to have been placed somewhere where I never really felt called and yet see how He will still use me in those places in one way or another. With Jaime, it’s jammin’ out to whatever rock song he’s singing and clapping as he tells me “come on!” XD I love how much more I’ve seen of God and myself here, it’s been awesome! (Like the view of the mountains XD)
