Dear Nana & Grampy,

Happy 50th wedding anniversary! It is so hard to be away while something so beautiful is being celebrated, but I was hoping that a letter could be a good stand in for me.

You have been such an inspiration to me throughout my entire life. From all of the sleepovers in Brimfield, to flying half way across the country to see my college graduation you have always been there for me. There aren’t enough words to explain how much you mean to me. As I reflect on the last 22 years of my life, there is absolutely no way that the picture could be complete without the two of you in it. Some of my most treasured memories are with you… playing in the snow in Brimfield and coming in to hot chocolate (with whipped cream of course), putting together the train set underneath the Christmas tree or stringing a popcorn strand, vacations to Cape Cod which always included plenty of seafood, days at the beach, and mini golf, going up to camp together, and of course driving out to Chicago to move me into college. You’ve been there through it all.

It is so easy for me to see how you have made such a beautiful marriage last for fifty whole years, and how you will continue to grow it in the years to come. You are an example that I hope to follow one day when I get married. You two always put each other first, and even when you forget (because we all do sometimes) you meet each other with grace and forgiveness. You prioritize your relationships with the Lord above your relationship with each other. You try to always consult the other when it comes to decision time and do your best to honor each other’s opinions. You know how to enjoy life together and I am so grateful that I have been able to be a part of that.

There is absolutely nobody else that I would ever want to call Nana and Grampy. Thank you for all of the ways that you have shaped me into who I am today. Thank you for reminding me to always say please and thank you. Thank you for being patient with me when I didn’t understand what self control meant. Thank you for coming to all of my plays. Thank you for making sure that I always had whatever I needed from clothes, to books, to just a fun toy or two. Most importantly, thank you for showing me the love of the Father and for praying that I would experience it. It is because of YOU that I know and love and follow Jesus. THANK YOU. I can’t say it enough.

I love you so so so much and I’m giving you a big Krissy hug from across the world today! See you sooner than we think

All my love,
Krissy
