My 1:00-3:00 class began and I had no idea that it would end the way it did.

At the end of each class, we read a story from scripture in their text books. Today’s story was about Jesus turning water into wine…one of my favorites.

We read the story twice as normal and I mentioned that it was one of my favorites. We then moved on to the questions that they answer for comprehension. We were about to move on to the next part of class and one of my students raised her hand. I asked her what her question was and she wanted to know why this story was one of my favorites.

I was giddy and so excited. The Lord was moving and stirring in their hearts. I had an opportunity in front of me to share what I believed. I prayed that the Lord would speak through me and that seeds would be planted.

I began to share why I love the story found in John 2….

This was Jesus’s first miracle. He could have chosen to do anything. He could have raised someone from the dead. He could have healed someone. He could have multiplied food, but He did something simple. He changed water to wine at a wedding.

He didn’t just change any old water into wine though. He used the dirty feet water and turned it into something valuable.

He told the servants to fill the jars with water and they filled them to the brim. I love this because they weren’t just obedient; they acted with great faith. They could have just filled the jars up partially, but they filled them to the brim.

The water was then served at the wedding. The master of the banquet remarked how they saved the best wine until last. This was the wine that Jesus had made out of water.

This story isn’t just about a miracle of turning water into wine though. This is a beautiful representation of our lives.

We are the dirty feet water. We are full of sin and are broken. We have no hope. We are lost and have no purpose. Just like Jesus changed the dirty feet water into wine, He also changes us. We are miracles. He transforms us from being broken and full of sin and turns us into something beautiful. He makes us clean and gives us a new identity as children of the Most High.

This is how our class ended that day, with one of the greatest love stories of all time.
