This month I am teaching English in one of the schools here in Cambodia. Let me tell you it has been an experience for sure. I have been teaching a class of second graders and a class of kindergartners.
Here are just a few of the highlights from class:
While teaching about animals.
Child: Teacher
Me: Yes Paul.
Child: “Sharks eat humans”
Me: Well sometimes that happens, but not normallly.
Child: “We are shark food”
Me: What is your favorite animal?
Child: Child is acting like the animal by crawling on the floor and making growling noises, while his hands are scratching in front of his face.
No one in the class knows what he is.
Me: I ask what are you?
Child: Tries to pronounce the word but sounds like he is speaking with marbles in his mouth.
Me: I just start guessing because this isn’t going well. Are you a dog?
Child: No
Me: Are you a bear?
Child: No
Me: What are you? Hoping I will be able to understand.
Child: mumbles and then says dinosaur
Me: Oh you are a dinosaur
Child: Yes but a tiraunasauraus rex (this took several tries to figure out what he was saying)
Me and entire class: Bursting into laughter.
This month has hands down been one of my favorite months on the race so far! These kids have so much joy even though they have so little. We have had so much fun playing games, acting out animals, having dance parties, and learning English.
The best part though was they wanted to know more about Jesus and I got to share how much love He has for each one of them!
